Lebanese government for consolidating relations with Syria
Lebanon-Syria, Politics, 4/23/2005

The Lebanese government has stressed determination to establish more consolidated relations with Syria in all fields.

The Lebanese government underlined in its ministerial statement which will be discussed by the Lebanese parliament next week the aid which was extended by the Syrian troops to pull Lebanon out of the civil war and rebuild its institutions.

The statement expressed commitment to al-Taif Accord as the basis of national reconciliation, and considered the Lebanese national resistance and its arms as a true and natural expression of the Lebanese people's right to defend themselves.

The statement also expressed commitment to facilitate the work of the international investigations committee to reveal the truth behind the assassination of former Lebanese Premier Rafiq al-Hariri.

The statement said that the main task that lies ahead for the government is to hold the parliamentary elections within the constitutional and legal dates.

Lebanese Former Premier Salim al-Huss questioned Friday how could the U.S. give itself the right to support one side against the other in any country like Lebanon at a time it doesn't allow the Lebanese people to decide their own or others' affairs?

In a statement to press, al-Huss criticized foreign intervention in the country, denouncing Israeli heinous acts of terror against the Palestinian people.

For his part, Sheikh Mohammad Hussein Fadlullah called upon the Lebanese to conduct a dialogue which is the bases for the national unity.
