Miqati clings to elections on time
Lebanon, Politics, 4/23/2005

On the election affairs, the Lebanese prime minister Najib Miqati stressed that the elections will be held at the due time on May 29th. He explained that his government will propose in its ministerial statement a mechanism to make the elections, noting that if the cabinet approves this mechanism, this will facilitate the mission of the government to abide by its electoral obligations.

He added "But if it will not agree, we will be obliged to call on the election commission one month before the set date of the elections."

Worthy mentioning that the Lebanese opposition had announced its consent on any elections law approved by the government, under the condition to be held at the set time.

However, Saad Eddine al-Hariri, son of the former Lebanese prime minister Rafiq al-Hariri who was chosen by the family to succeed his father politically, linked his nomination for the elections to the law to be drawn by Miqati government.
