Syria denies Israel's participation in searching for sunk cargo ship
Syria-Israel, Local, 4/22/2005
Syria on Thursday denied the Israeli allegations which say that the Syrian forces helped in searching for the team of the Syrian cargo ship which sank on Wednesday in the international territorial waters, noting that the incident took place at a very long distance from the Israeli territorial waters, in contrary to what was announced by Tel Aviv.
A Syrian official said that the "boats of the Israeli army did not carry out any role concerning the search operations." He explained that the Syrian ship sank 160 km off the Israeli coasts noting that three of the crew members were rescued by the crew of the Turkish ship Panamanian and that other three, two Syrians and one Egyptian are still missing.
However, the Israeli army announced its participation in its rescue boats and the French marine forces in a search operation for the missing Syrian cargo ship.
