Civil society, pillar to support women rights promotion, conference

Guaranteeing success to women MPs, who are militating for the promotion of women rights, requires the support of the civil society and that of electors, vented the president of the Moroccan-Finish Friendship Commission.

Ms. Irina Krohn, who was speaking, Wednesday, at a conference on "Women rights promotion policies in Morocco and Finland: sharing experiences," pleaded for the integration of strong networks to conclude alliances between parliamentarians and the different organisms of the civil society.

Krohn underlined the need to put in place efficacious mechanisms and foster the spirit of emulation between women leaders for an efficient feminine action.

In this context, Krohn lauded the adoption by Morocco of the new family code in a "record time."

As to the Moroccan women MPs participating in this meeting, they stressed that a larger presence of women within Moroccan political institutions requires the upgrade of the legislative and institutional arsenals, and an overall mobilization of the civil society around the cause.

This convention comes in preparation to an international conference, due to take place next November on the exchange of experiences for the betterment of the situation of the woman with the participation of feminist movements militants in Europe and the Arab states.
