Two US oil companies get drilling licence in Morocco

Morocco has granted onshore oil drilling licences to two US companies "Direct Petroleum Morocco Inc" and "Anschutz Morocco Corporation" to conduct evaluation of the oil potential in the Moroccan region of Asilah-Tissa.

The contract signed this Tuesday between the Moroccan national Office of hydrocarbons and mines (ONHYM) and the two companies gives to the two US firms the exclusive drilling authorisation in the onshore Asilah-Tissa region, a 12,386 square km-wide area located in northern Morocco, ONHYM announced.

The 12-month contract also includes various specific studies.

Morocco has so far signed 15 offshore and onshore drilling contracts with foreign companies.
