Nasrullah: Hizbullah will not give up its weapons
Lebanon, Politics, 4/20/2005
The secretary general of the Lebanese Hizbullah party, Sheikh Hassan Nasrullah, said that the party will not give up its weapons. This was expressed following statements made by the US President George W. Bush calling on the party to give up its weapons.
Nasrullah said in an interview with Reuters that his party will keep its weapons and will not give it up, noting that this decision is because of the continued Israeli occupation and the risks of occupation against his country.
He stressed that the UN Security Council resolution demanding Hizbullah to hand over its weapons is meaningless and of no value.
Sheikh Naem Qasem, the deputy secretary general of the Hizbullah party told the London based Financial Times that the party will discuss the question of its weapons when Israel withdraws from Shabaa farms. He, then, loomed the possibility that the armed militia to be converted to reserve forces working with the Lebanese authorities.
Worthy mentioning that the UN Security Council resolution 1559 called on Hizbullah to give up its weapons as well for a Syrian withdrawal from Lebanon. Washington considers Hizbullah a terrorist organization.
