Russian parliamentary delegation rejects threats on syria

A Russian parliamentary group leader said on Tuesday any threat directed to Syria would be considered a threat against Russia.
"The old historical ties that joined Syria and Russia are a strong proof of the geopolitical interests accordance where any threat against Syria is regarded as a threat directed too to Russia's interests," Head of the Russian parliamentary group Russia and the Islamic World, Sultanove Zahed Shamelovich told an open dialogue with journalists.
He said that Russia's current policy is based on convergence with the Islamic world that no cause can succeed in the world without taking into consideration its interests.
He noted that the Russian foreign minister Sergie Lavrov clarified this point saying that Russian is against the idea of talking about the declared war against Muslims to fulfill schemes serving the United States which are based on changing some Arab and Islamic countries regimes.
He hailed the splendor religious tolerance in Syria hoping Russians would make use of the distinguished civilized heritage that Syria is enjoying particularly Russia is like Syria in enjoying a kind of religious and national variation.
Sulatnov called to formulate an Arab and Islamic lobby that circulates for the Arab and Islamic interests and which would be in a way that concords with the Russian president's call to formulate it during the Islamic summit that has been held in Malaysia.
Members of the delegation and media men accompanying them underlined that Russia's position is clear regarding supporting Syria and standing by her in restoring the occupied Syrian Golan and in facing what she is exposed to of pressures saying "this is a position expressed by Russian President Vladimir Putin during the last summit meeting held with US President George W. Bush." Members of the Russian parliamentary delegation hoped Syria's process of reform would succeed in a way that would positively be reflected on all Syrians.
