Al-Madayen crisis ends, resulted in killing 13 Iraqis
Iraq, Politics, 4/19/2005

The Iraqi Islamic party warned that the crisis of al-Madayen city to the south of Baghdad was fabricated and warned against an external conspiracy fabricated to deprive the city of its Iraqi identity.

The party said that the danger of a foreign conspiracy looms around the city. The party called on the Iraqi government and all political and religious leaders to "be more logical in dealing with these issues and not to be just a follower of an agenda of events imposed from the outside." For their part, the people of al-Madayen city held the state of tension their city had witnessed to "foreigners who came from outside the city." They denied kidnapping operations of citizens or threats against the Shiite to force them out of the city.

The Iraqi security forces backed by the American army controlled al-Madayen without violence or resistance.

The government officials said that the allegations to taking hostage 150 Shiite was an exaggerated matter and serves political purposes. They explained that "matters were exaggerated because the Shiite who won the elections and could not translate that to maintain a political force over their rivals, including the Sunnah who had been once a predominant force." The chairman of the Sunni Waqf in Iraq, Adnan Muhammad Salman, attributed the events in al-Madayen to tribal conflicts over certain lands which was owned by the state. He denied any sectarian nature for the conflict.

The security affairs minister Qasem Murad announced before the Iraqi national assembly ( parliament) in Baghdad that the Iraqi security forces found seven booby trapped car and a camp for training gunmen.
