Second dead whale appears on the Syrian coast
Syria, Local, 4/19/2005

A dead whale weighting about 6 tones and of 7,5 meters long, was found on Monday on the seashore of the coastal city of Tartous. It is the second of its kind that died and appeared on the Syrian coast in a year.

SANA said special scientific missions have come to the sight of the whale to study the reason behind its death and the cause of this phenomenon.

Director of environment in Tartous, Hassan Morjan, said the whale would be moved to the center of maritime research in Lattakia to study and analyze the death.

He noted that another dead whale appeared last year on the coast of Tartous near the tourist region of Basira.
