Junblat warns against American schemes in the Middle East
Lebanon-USA, Politics, 4/19/2005
In the context of foreign interactions with the Lebanese internal crisis, the Druz leader Walid Junblat made press statements issued on Monday over what he called the American schemes in the Middle East region that are perpetuated under slogans of freedom and democracy.
Junblat, who is considered the main Lebanese opposition leader, said following his coming back from France where he had met with senior officials there including the Saudi crown prince Abdullah "we do not want to ride any ship coming to us from the West." He talked about a ship whose apparent slogan so far is "freedom, independence and democracy," while in another place there is an American- Israeli agenda to destroy the region.
On the Arab principles and geography concerning Syria, Junblat stressed attachment to good relations with Syria after the withdrawal of the Syrian forces from Lebanon and of protecting Hizbullah, calling on the opposition to crystallize an economic political program.
