Jordanian king calls for Israeli withdrawal from the West Bank, after Gaza

The Jordanian king Abdullah II stressed the need that the Israeli withdrawal from the Palestinian territories not to be limited for Gaza only, rather to be followed by a withdrawal from the West Bank and freezing the building of settlements.

Following his meeting with the Paqlestinian President Mahmoud Abbas on Sunday, the king stressed that the withdrawal should be according to the Roadmap peace plan, adding that there are "matters that should be left for the final solutions negotiations," noting not to the nature of these matters.

The two sides stressed the need of halting the Israeli settlement activity being an obstacle to reaching a just and comprehensive peace. The also noted the importance of enduring protection for al-Aqsa in order to ensure the safety of the holy sites in occupied Jerusalem of threats of the extremist Jewish groups.
