Palestinian sneaks to the Golan to kidnap an Israeli officer
Palestine-Syria, Politics, 4/16/2005
An Israeli military source in the Golan said that the armed man who sneaked to the Golan on Friday morning is a Palestinian youth who had planned to kidnap an Israeli officer to the Syrian territories from which he had come.
The source which took part in the investigation with the young Palestinian did not give more information.
An Israeli military source announced earlier that the armed man opened fire at an Israeli position in the Golan Heights and was detained after that. The source said that the attacker is a Palestinian refugee and member of the Palestine National Liberation Front ( Fatah). He is 21 year old and lives in al-Yarmouk camp in Syria.
The same source said that the young man fired nine bullets at a site close to Allouni Habshan settlement in the northern sector of the Golan heights near the ceasefire line. No casualties were reported.
The Golan Heights is a Syrian territory occupied by Israel since 1967, which announced its annexation in 1981. Peace negotiations over it between Syria and Israel collapsed in 2000.
