Miqati starts today consultations to form the Lebanese government
Lebanon, Politics, 4/16/2005

Lebanese parliamentarian Najib Miqati is due to start today his special consultations to form the next Lebanese government after he was assigned to that officially by the Lebanese president Emil Lahoud, on the ground of his nomination by a parliamentary majority including opposition parliamentarians.

Miqati will start his consultations by meeting with President Lahoud in preparations to complete his task as soon as possible.

It seemed that the acceptance of the Lebanese opposition to nominate Miqati is a step to accelerate the formation of the government and consequently the elections.

Miqati's nomination seemed to be a middle solution between the government and opposition supporters wings.

Miqati won the majority of 57 votes out of 128 over a small majority to the minister of defense in the resigned Lebanese government Abdul Rahim Murad who was also nominated by certain parliamentarians in a controversial voting operation.

Parliamentarian Misbah al-Ahdab said that Miqati was nominated because he vowed openly to organize the elections at the due time, not to nominate himself for the elections and to remove the leaders of the security forces and the attorney general in Lebanon.
