Egyptian statesman calls on washington to be positive to Syria

Former Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmed Maher called on Thursday the United States to adopt a positive stance towards Syria praising Syria's decision to pull out from Lebanon.

"There is a genuine Syrian desire to resume peace negotiations and create the appropriate atmosphere for that," Maher said in statements to the Egyptian television.

He noted to the Israeli intransigence against the Palestinian cause saying it was not new, and clarified the Israeli government would like to keep the biggest size of the occupied Arab territories with the least of concessions.

On Lebanon, Maher called all the Lebanese to solidify and consolidate as to save Lebanon and enable it to face bids targing it.

He considered the US involvement in Iraq as an impasse saying it has been involved in Iraq through the way it runs its occupation.
