Scores of Iraqis killed, injured; Zarqawi claims responsibility for twin explosions

In a statement on the Internet, al-Jihad Qaida in Bilad al-Rafeydeen claimed responsibility for the blowing up of two booby trapped car in Baghdad on Thursday that resulted in killing 18 and injuring other 40, most of them members of the Iraqi police.

The organization, which is led by Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, said that the two attacks targeted one convoy and guards of the Iraqi minister of the interior. The two attacks took place at the morning peak hour, and the two cars were exploded one after another, 200 meters distance in al-Jadereyah quarters near Imam al-Hussein square in al-Rasafah area to the south of the Iraqi capital.

The two attacks targeted a fortified sector of the ministry of the interior and a convoy for the Iraqi police including nine cars. The explosion took place in the back cars of the convoy followed by the explosion of another car in the middle of the convoy.

Parts of the bodies of the killed persons were scattered amid a state of horror that made some of the wounded flee while blood covered their faces and cloth. Some 15 cars were destroyed.
