Turkish figures and president Sezer's visit to syria

Deputy Speaker of the Turkish Parliament Sadek Yakout said Wednesday's important visit by Turkish President Ahmet Necdet Sezer to Syria came as part of a new stage marked by promising enhanced bilateral relations.

Yakout, in in interview published Tuesday in the daily newspaper of Tishreen, underscored significance of history and geography that bound many countries including Syria and Turkey.

He also called on the governments in the region to develop means of cooperation in all political, economic and technological fields to match up to latest developments in the world and lay firm basis for the future in all domains.

The Turkish Deputy Speaker of Parliament called for setting up joint Syrian-Turkish committee to overcome difficulties and obstacles that may hinder the process of cooperation between the two countries.

For his part, Turkish Ambassador in Damascus Khaled Cevik stressed that President SezEr's visit to Damascus reflected keenness by both countries on continuing the process of cooperation and consultation, particularly on the bilateral relations and best means to further develop them.

The ambassador told Al-Thawra daily newspaper in a statement published Tuesday that Syrian-Turkish relation had been in constant progress in various fields, adding that Syria has a distinguished place in the Turkish policy based on good relations with all the neighboring countries.

Cevik pointed out to the willingness of Turkish businessmen to enter the Syrian market and investment, expressing hope that best ways for enhancing mutual investment could be reached to increase trade exchanges.
