Syria, Politics, 4/13/2005

Syria's Minister of Information called on Tuesday to make media a means of change and development in all domains urging to upgrade it to match national and pan-Arab responsibilities.

"Information must be a way of change and progress in all fields to achieve the genuine contribution in pushing the social, economic and cultural growth in Syria forward," Minister of Information Mehdi Dakhellalah said.

In a meeting with journalists in northeast Syria, Dakhlallah said there is a need to upgrade the information level to match tasks of national and pan-Arab responsibilities, noting that this should be done in a way that serves the development process and improve it.

" Media is important and has a role to be played in building homeland Syria, " stressed.
