Lebanon-Syria, Politics, 4/13/2005

Lebanese officials stressed that the presence of the Syrian forces in Lebanon reduced to its lowest levels and those remaining will leave the Lebanese territories before April 30, the date which the Syrian President Bashar al-Assad gave to the UN in this regard.

In press statements, the Lebanese defense minister Abdul Rahim Murad said he expects other Syrian soldiers to complete their withdrawal from the Lebanese territories within one week or ten days.

Another Lebanese military official expected that some 10,000 Syrian soldiers to have had left Lebanon, since the beginning of the withdrawal operation since March 8th, out of the total number of the Syrian forces which were positioned in Lebanon, estimated at 14,000 troops.

This comes at a time when Syria almost daily withdraws its soldiers and weapons from Lebanon into inside the Syrian territories.
