Increasing number of the Saudi Shoura council
Saudi Arabia, Politics, 4/12/2005
Saudi Arabia's King Fahd Bin Abdul Aziz on Monday issued a royal decree for increasing the number of members of the Shoura council from 120 to 150.
The council, which does not enjoy legislative authority, and its recommendations are subject to the Saudi King's approval, is due to convene its new session in May in the presence of the new 30 members. The council's term of office is extended to four years.
The royal decree includes a change in a large number of the council members and extension for many others, including the chairman of the former council Saleh Bin Abdullah Bin Hameed. A new deputy was appointed for the chairman of the council, Mahmoud Bin Abdullah Teiba.
