Attorney General: bomb incident is an individual act, no implications to tourism or security
Egypt, Politics, 4/11/2005
Counselor Maher Abdel Wahed, the Attorney General said Al Azhar bombing was an individual act saying it would neither affect tourism nor the stable security situation in Egypt.
Addressing a press conference yesterday, he said there were no evidences that other elements took part in the bombing.
He said interrogations indicated that the injured did not see the bomber as the scene was crowded during the bombing adding that they said they were stunned by the bombing and the entry of strange bodies in their bodies when the contents of the explosive charge scattered.
Sources of the Ministry of Interior said Interior Minister Habib Al Adly gave directives to security services in the governorates and tourism police for beefing up security measures in all sites and securing tourist groups.
On its part, the Jamaa Islamia condemned the terrorist incident saying in a statement that it strongly denounces the bombing which it described as an irresponsible one.
Jamaa Islamia said this incident is meant to involve the country into anarchy and disarray. It said the bombing was meant to hinder reform and development efforts saying tourists visiting Egypt should be secured and their funds must be preserved.
In another development, the People's Assembly yesterday denounced the bombing saying it serves only the interests of the enemies of the homeland and undermine Egypt's security and stability.
Meantime, Security services are pursuing efforts to find clues that could help uncover the identity of Al Azhar blast bomber in the upcoming few hours.
In this context, security services are conducting DNA analysis and other technical investigations.
President Mubarak yesterday delegated Chamberlain of the Presidency Hamed Abdel Razek to inquire after the health of those who were injured in the bombing.
High level security sources said initial investigations have categorically confirmed that the bombing has no relationship with any foreign organizations adding that all evidences indicate that the incident was an individual one.
The security sources told Al -Ahram that the bomber used a primitive explosive charge which caused the scattering of his remains. Technical investigations indicate that the explosive charge used in the bombing was no more than 3 kilograms of black gun powder, nails and some metal pieces.
The sources said the culprit was affected by events and pressures as well as dispatches by satellite channels, adding the Internet was one of the methods resorted to by such bombers to make explosives.
Clues confirmed that the bomber has had no experience, which was behind his killing in the bombing.
