Zahi Hawaas: Sobek temple to reopen

"Culture Minister Farouk Hosni unveils next month the Sobek temple in Kom Ombo, which bas been restored at a cost of LE 15 million," Egypt's Secretary-General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities (SCA) said yesterday.
Zahi Hawas said that Minister Hosni will also inaugurate a new museum displaying mummified crocodiles and built near the restored temple, dedicated to the principal deities of ancient Kom Ombo.
These deities were Harwar, a hawk-headed god, and Sobek, represented in the form of a crocodile.
The multi-phase restoration project, which began two years ago, incorporates new facilities such as the Crocodile museum, the SCA chief added.
