Yemeni opposition reject use of power as violation of the constitution
Yemen, Politics, 4/11/2005
The Yemeni opposition parties rejected the use of force and violence outside the framework of the constitution and the law, and deplored all forms of "sectarian, tribal, and regional extremism forms."
Six Yemeni opposition parties called for the formation of an investigation committee to investigate in Saadah confrontations, so as to brief the public on facts objectively as a means to avoid the repetition of these acts and its destructive implications.
The groups stressed in a statement that current confrontations came just less than one year from the Marran incidents, and constitute an extension of it, considering that this is evidence on the bad measures pursued by the government in dealing with this issue.
The statement was signed by the Islamic Reforms Party; the Socialist Party, the Naserite Unionist Organization, the National Arab Baath Party, the Union of the People's Forces and al-Haq party. The two last parties are considered part of the Shiite Islamic trend.
