Pakistani official in Iraq kidnapped

The Pakistani foreign ministry announced on Sunday that its consul in Iraq was kidnapped at the hands of unidentified persons, in the series of kidnapping operations. A situation which indicates the deteriorated security conditions, two years after the occupation of Iraq.

Pakistani diplomatic sources and a source in the Iraqi police stressed the disappearance of consul Malik Muhammad Jawad in the west of Baghdad since Saturday evening, after he had performed his prayers in one of the mosques near his house.

Meantime, Pakistan appealed to the kidnappers of one of its embassy's employees in Iraq to release him, saying that he is a civil servant at the embassy and has no connection to what is taking place in Iraq.

Pakistan said that the group which kidnapped him calls itself Omar Bin al-Khattab group and that information available indicate that he is in a good condition.
