Moroccan customs revenues increased 6.1% in 2004

Moroccan customs revenues increased 6.1% in 2004, handling a record MAD 44.36 billion compared to 2003, announced, in Rabat Thursday, Director General of "Administration des douanes et impots indirects" (ADII), Abdellatif Zaghnoun.
Speaking at a press conference on ADII performance in 2004, Zeghnoun said customs revenues rose despite waiving customs duties due to Free Trade Agreements the kingdom signed noting that these revenues were constituted mainly of value added taxes (TVA) 38%, while internal consumption tax (TIC) and import duties' contribution in customs revenues flared up 24%.
The ADII Director General pointed out that his administration set up an on line database to dematerialise and facilitate the ADII operations. This technique helped increase electronic payment by 83% and by 66% the number of operations carried out through the web.
The ADII limited the customs clearance duration in 46 minutes and set up a strategy to fight fraud and disloyal competition to clean up business environment and improve companies competitiveness.
