Demonstrators denounce Polisario crimes, in Geneva nations square
Morocco-Switzerland, Politics, 4/9/2005

A demonstration was staged in Geneva Friday morning at the Nations square to denounce the crimes and violations perpetrated by the Algeria-backed Polisario against the populations of Tindouf camps, South-West Algeria.

Demonstrators also chanted slogans and called for the immediate liberation of the 408 Moroccans still detained by Polisario contrary to all international laws.

The protestors, most of them natives of the Moroccan Southern provinces, gathered in the square coming from several European countries and waving Moroccan flags and banners denouncing Polisario crimes against humanity.

Representatives of the demonstrators and associations participating in the protest handed to the Secretariat of the UN office in Geneva a message addressed to UN Secretary General recalling that in spite of the many UN recommendations to UN Security Council "the longest detained prisoners in the world are still kept in the jails of Tindouf, Algeria." The Polisario staged a war against Morocco in 1975 after the North African Kingdom retrieved its Southern Provinces from Spanish rule under the Madrid accords. The separatist movement has been detaining since then some Moroccans and sequestrating Sahrawis it lured to Tindouf camps under false propaganda.
