Morocco, Mauritania sign two educational cooperation accords

Morocco and Mauritania signed, in Nouakchott Thursday, two accords to develop cooperation in education and illiteracy eradication for the three coming years.

The two North African states agreed pursuant to the first accord to strengthen educational cooperation, notably in training Mauritanian students in Moroccan institutes, sharing educational experiences and promoting research on issues of priority for the two countries.

The second accord provides for carrying out joint programs to fight illiteracy and the Moroccan government undertakes to train Mauritanian officers in its specialised centres.

The accords cover also Moroccan's contribution to set up infrastructures to fight illiteracy in Mauritania.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, the Mauritanian Minister of Education said the accords will give a new impetus to Moroccan-Mauritanian relations already excellent under the auspices of king Mohammed VI and Mauritanian President, Maaouya Ould Sid Ahmed Taya.

As to Moroccan Minister of National Education, Higher Education, Staff Training and Scientific Research, Habib El-Malki, he said the accords are a "new start" to promote bilateral relations in education.

Earlier, the Mauritanian President, Maaouya Ould Sid Ahmed Taya received Habib El-Malki and secretary of State to the Minister of National Education, Higher Education, Staff Training and Scientific Research, in charge of Literacy and Informal Education, Anis Birou.
