Osman: LE 112 billion proposed for 2005/06 plan

Egypt's Ministry of Planning has drawn up a plan for 2005/06 to be submitted to the Cabinet next week.

The plan calls for total investments of LE 112 billion.

Minister of Planning Osman Mohamed Osman stated that the proposed plan envisages economic growth hitting 6 percent up from the 5 percent predicted for the current year 2004/05.

He stressed that investments of LE 112 billion would be needed to achieve this target.

"It is expected that the private sector will create LE 65 billion of these investments by setting up agricultural, industrial and tourist projects," the Minister explained.

Osman noted that the majority of governmental investments would be channeled into improving the potable water and sewage, systems as well as upgrading educational and health care services.

The 2005/06 plan also calls for decentralizing investments in the governorates' educational building projects.
