Senior army officer in the Iraqi army was kidnapped

Gunmen kidnapped a senior officer in the Iraqi army, Maj. Gen. Jalal Muhammad Saleh, who assumes the leadership of a special armored contingent which is one of the first armored units in the Iraqi army.
The Iraqi military sources explained that gunmen took the senior Iraqi army officer from his car as he was heading to his work in the west of Baghdad on Tuesday morning, noting that members of the bodyguards escorting him were also kidnapped.
Meantime, areas situated around Baghdad's airport were shaken on Tuesday following a violent blast of a booby trapped car that targeted an investigation point for the Iraqi army. The Iraqi security sources said that one civilian was killed in the explosion.
In another development, one American military car was burnt to the south of Baghdad on Tuesday morning following a bomb explosion targeting a military convoy. This was hours after another attack against Abu Ghraib prison over which al-Qaida organization in al-Rafeydeen area ( Mesopotamia) claimed responsibility for, and one day after a comprehensive attacks against the prison resulted in wounding 44 Americans and 14 prisoners.
Neither the American nor the Iraqi military source did confirm casualties in the explosion as the American forces imposed a security belt around the place and prevented journalists from approaching it.
In other developments, news reports said that violent clashes took place between the American forces and gunmen in al-Ghazaleyah area in the west of Baghdad. The American army announced the killing of one of its soldiers and wounding another on Saturday by the bullets of gunmen in Talaffer town in Musil governorate to the north of Iraq. The army also announced the killing of another soldier in Beji to the north of Baghdad.
In Baghdad, one Iraqi civilians who was in his car was seriously injured by bullets fired by security members while they were trying to bypass him on a bridge in the downtown. Three Iraqis were injured including one Iraqi police man as a result of a blast explosion targeting an American procession in Baqouba in the north east of the capital Baghdad.
In al-Sader city to the east of Baghdad, the secretary general of the Iraqi communist party Hamid Majuid Mousa announced that unidentified gunmen attacked the headquarters of the city of a Shiite majority and burnt it and destroyed the computer devices and the library and windows.
