Director Jilali Ferhati awarded tetuan film festival grand prize

Moroccan movie director, Jilali Ferhati won the grand prize of the 12 edition of the Tetuan film Festival for his movie "Memory in Detention."

The award was announced at the closing session of the festival on Friday for this movie made in 2004 and telling the story of a delinquent after he was freed from prison and together with a former amnesiac inmate set to look for a relative of the latter.

Their quest goes beyond the search for the relative into their prison memories. The main parts of the movie are played by Ferhati himself and Mohamed Mezouari.

Jilali Ferhati was born in 1948 in the Northern town of Tangier and later studied sociology. He produced his first movie in 1977 "A Breach in the Wall," then in 1981 "A Reeds Doll" and in 1991 "The Beach of Lost Children."

The Tetuan Film Festival 12th edition was opened on March 25 and contributed to by Arab and international movies.
