Saud al-Faisal to meet Mubarak

Egypt's President Hosni Mubarak receives Sunday Saudi Foreign Minister Saud Al Faisal who will lead his country's delegation to the meetings of the Egyptian-Saudi joint committee whose proceedings will kick off in the same day.

Foreign Minister Ahmad Abul Gheit said the committee will discuss means to increase trade exchange and investments after removing the obstacles.

Assistant Foreign Minister Hani Khallaf and his visiting Saudi counterpart Youssef Saadoun said Egyptian-Saudi relations were developing thanks to efforts exerted by the two countries' leaderships.

This came during preparatory meetings held in Cairo on Thursday to set the stage for the joint Egyptian-Saudi committee meetings to open in Cairo on Sunday under the co-chairmanship of Abul Gheit and his Saudi opposite.

These meetings took up a number of topics including the adoption of necessary measures to facilitate trade exchange between the two countries and remove all obstacles hindering it, the Saudi official said following the meetings.

Participants listened to a report on the outcome of the previous meetings of the Egyptian-Saudi business council which was hosted by Cairo recently.

The meetings were attended by Egyptian Ambassador to Saudi Arabia Mohamed Kassem and Saudi Ambassador in Cairo Ibrahim Saad Ibrahim.

The Egyptian-Saudi business council on Thursday for removing customs and non-customs hurdles in order to increase the volume of trade exchange between the two countries and upping Egyptian exports to the kingdom. At the end of its meetings Wednesday night, the committee called for registering medicines and cosmetics in the two countries as well as setting up a maritime bridge to facilitate the movement of trade and individuals between the two countries. Over the past two days, the council discussed enhancing bilateral economic and trade cooperation and improving investment climate.

The volume of trade exchange between Egypt and Saudi Arabia reached US$ 418 million in 2004.
