NGOs hand missing people list from polisario camps to Spanish official
Morocco-Spain, Politics, 4/2/2005

A list of people reported missing from the Polisario camps of Tindouf, South-West Algeria, was handed to a senior official working at the Spanish mission to the UNO in Geneva.

Representatives of a human rights NGO met Spanish deputy ambassador in Geneva and informed him on the serious human rights violations perpetrated by Polisario against the Sahrawis sequestrated in Tindouf camps.

The Sahrawis were lured into the camps by Polisario propaganda in the wake of the retrieval by Morocco of its Southern provinces, known as the sahara, in 1975 when the provinces were given back to Morocco under the Madrid accords.

The meeting took place on the occasion of the 61st meeting of the UN human rights commission with the attendance of representatives of the Association of the Parents of Sahrawis victim of Repression in Tindouf camps(PASVERTI) and the Sahrawi association for human rights defence (ASADEDH).

The NGOs denounced the presence in Spain of Polisario delegate, Brahim Ghali, known for perpetrating numerous and serious human rights violations against the populations living in the camps.

The NGOs representatives, reminded to the Spanish diplomat the responsibility of Ghali in the assassination some years ago of the sailors of "Cruz Del Mar."

They also wondered why Madrid keeps silent concerning the numerous violations against the camps populations, stressing the need for Spanish authorities to talk to Algerian peers to inquire about the fate of hundreds of political prisoners and other people reported missing from the camps.
