Train agreement with Canada soon
Egypt-Canada, Economics, 4/1/2005
An agreement is underway with a major Canadian company to manufacture trains in Egypt and export the surplus to Asia and Africa.
This could lead to Egypt becoming a center of production in this field, said the Minister of Transportation, Essam Sharar Eddin, following his meeting with the Canadian Ambassador to Egypt, Philip MacKinnon yesterday.
The two sides also discussed ways of boosting cooperation in the transport and the role of transportation in development given the fact that Canada is one of the pioneering countries in this domain and has a major transport network infrastructure.
The Minister reviewed with the ambassador the projects that have priority at the ministry, including developing the performance of the railways sector and the third line of the underground Metro from Imbaba to Cairo Airport.
They also discussed the possibility of investment in the hinterland area of the harbour of East Port Said, in addition to developing the Nile transport sector.
