Baz: Egypt is qualified to get a permanent seat in the UNSC seat
Egypt-UN, Politics, 4/1/2005
"Egypt is qualified to get a permanent seat in the UN Security Council to represent Africa, thanks to its time-honored civilization and its prestigious status," presidential political advisor Osama El-Baz said yesterday.
"It is high time that the Arab and Muslim world, and Africa speak in one voice," Baz told a seminar in Al-Zaqaziq University.
Baz stressed the importance of launching the long-delayed Arab common market.
Baz further said the world is getting through a "very critical juncture." He said the "US hegemony" in the world will not exist forever, noting that other powers will emerge in the days to come like the European Union, China and India.
Baz also underlined that Egypt was not yielding to any external pressures, pointing out that President Hosni Mubarak's decision to amend article 76 of Constitution to allow multi- candidate presidential election came to lay measures for running for the presidency.
