Morocco adopts UN convention criminalizing corruption
Morocco, Politics, 4/1/2005
The Moroccan Government Council adopted Thursday the United Nations convention against corruption signed by Rabat on October 31, 2003 when it was adopted in New York.
This move translates the government's determination to tighten measures to fight corruption and promote the good management of public funds.
The convention comprises provisions on the incrimination of corruption, sanctions against its authors and the restitution of goods ensuing from it. It also includes measures aimed at reinforcing the participation of society and the establishment of norms to fight corruption.
The government council also adopted three other international conventions related to cooperation between Morocco and Turkey in customs and environment.
Last February, Morocco decided to lift reservation on some articles of international conventions on racial discrimination and torture.
