Lebanese personalities warns of plans targeting Lebanese economy
Lebanon, Politics, 4/1/2005

Member of Parliamentary Bloc of Al-Wafaa for Resistance, George Nejem, stressed that the recent explosions in Beirut aim at destroying Lebanon's economy following the assassination of the former Lebanese Premier Rafic Hariri.

In a statement published Tuesday, Nejem said the only beneficiary from the bloody series of violence in Lebanon are the country's enemies in order "to impose their political diktats and serve their own interests."

The legislator called on all Lebanese parties to be aware of the gravity of the situation and to face all new conspiracies which aimed at destroying the country.

Meantime, Deputy Chairman of the Higher Islamic Shiite Council Sheikh Abdulamir Qabalan and Sheikh Mohammad Hussein Fadlullah warned against the dangerous current stage, asserting that it requires vigilance and wisdom, particularly in dealing with the foreign campaign against Syria and Lebanon.

In a meeting Tuesday, both sides underscored that resistance is the guarantee that protects Lebanon against Israeli continued violations, stressing the importance of boosting solidarity and consultation to consolidate the national unity.

They said dialogue and consultation are the best means to maintain the national unity in line with the Taif Accord as the basis for the Lebanese unity.
