Al-Ahram: Hamas Leader: Hamas will not join Palestinian government
Palestine, Politics, 3/31/2005

In the seminar held at Al-Ahram newspaper, Hamas Movement Political Bureau Chief Khalid Mashaal said he willingly came to Egypt as the Palestinians have identical views with their brothers in Egypt.

In statements to Al-Ahram, he, moreover, stressed that they should build on the Cairo Declaration achievement, noting that Hamas will not join the Palestinian government and pointed out that the outstanding negotiation project is not satisfactory for the Palestinian.

As for Gaza, he said he had agreed with the Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas to run the affairs of Gaza after the Israeli pullout.

He added that the Europeans have placed them (Palestinians) at the top of terror list while admitting in closed sessions that there is no solution without Hamas Movement.

When asked about the resistance, he stressed that the resistance is not an end, yet, he said, it is a compulsory means which needs to be rationalized.

Hamas Leader pointed out that they (Hamas members) will not impose their cultural program on people, confirming that Hamas does not seek a religious statehood and described these allegations as US-Israeli incitement.
