Sohag police unearth mummy
Egypt, Local, 3/31/2005
Sohag police found an ancient mummy in the Akhmim District fields yesterday.
The discovery of the mummy came in the aftermath of a report sent to Sohag police that a corpse bas been found buried in a field.
A forensic examination round that the corpse is of a woman who died a very long time ago, this being backed by a later antiquities committee analysis.
Unfortunately, the mummy is in a very bad condition due to the linen which originally wrapped it having been removed a long time ago.
The antiquities committee also said that the mummy was first buried in one of Sohag's old tombs before a governorate resident then moved it to the field, likely thinking that it belonged to someone who had been murdered.
