Lebanese parties rebuff foreign interference

Lebanese national forces and parties in Tripoli and north Lebanon underlined rejection on Wednesday of the foreign interference in the Lebanese internal affairs noting the aim of that was to plant sedition and threaten civil peace.

In a statement after meeting in Tripoli, the parties urged the need of forming a national unity government as the only way to exit from current situation in Lebanon.

"The full implementation of the Taif accord in all its terms including the distinguished ties with sisterly Syria and the putting into force of all signed accords with Syria is the choice that all Lebanese must agree upon," the statement said.

The Lebanese parties and forces also stressed that resistance as the Lebanese option to salvage from the Israeli occupation of parts of Lebanon and to keep its security and stability.

Meantime, Deputy Chairman of the Lebanese Higher Islamic Shiite Council Sheikh Abdul Amir Qabalan renewed rejection to foreign interference in Lebanon interior affairs.

In a meeting of scholars and religious men, Qabalan underlined the need to keep resistance and its weapon as long as there are an occupied Lebanese territories.

He also warned against inclinations to sow sedition among Lebanese calling everyone to be careful and cooperate as to enhance national unity.

Lebanese Maronite Patriarch Nasrallah Butros Sfeir said today Lebanon should be in state of cooperation and friendship with Syria. Meeting a delegation from eastern Lebanon, Sfeir said the Syrian forces withdrawal from Lebanon does not mean "we would be in a status of difference or enmity but rather we would be in a state of cooperation and friendship."

Meantime, Israel continued on Wednesday violations of Lebanon's airspace and sovereignty.

Directorate of guidance at the Lebanese army said an Israeli airplanes came from the sea facing Tyre city in the South to start a circling flight over Khaldeh and Sidon then left from over Naqora.

On the other hand, a US congressmen delegation held talks today with each of Speaker of the Lebanese Parliament and Foreign Minister. Congressman David Briyer hoped in a statement that Parliamentary elections would be held in Lebanon before May 30 and in the presence of international monitors.
