Mortar shelling hits Green Zone in Iraq

Mortar shelling were fired near the headquarters of the Iraqi parliament meeting in the Green Zone, but no casualties were reported.
This coincided with continued attacks and explosions in various areas of Iraq, with the most violent of which was an attack by a booby trapped car in Raheem area in Karkouk to the north of Baghdad that resulted in killing one Iraqi and injuring other 17. A spokesman for the Iraqi police said that the attack targeted a procession for the director of water and sewage department in the city, Abdul Qader Siddiq, who survived death.
News reports said that the director of the southern oil company in al-Basra survived an assassination attempt by blowing up an explosive targeting his procession in al-Risalah quarters in the downtown of the city.
News reports said that five Iraqis were killed after two mortars of unidentified source fell on a building annexed to the general hospital of Ramadi hospital. On the other hand, the American forces besieged the eastern quarters of the city and broke into one of its health centers.
In other attacks to the north of the capital Baghdad, two Iraqis were killed and four gunmen in an armed clash that took place at an inspection point near al-Touz city to the east of Tikrit.
An Iraqi contractor working for the American army was killed and his driver was injured in an attack launched by gunmen to the east of Balad town. Three Iraqis were injured following a bomb explosion in al-Ishaqi area.
