On India's consideration for gas line from Iran or Qatar
Regional-India, Economics, 3/29/2005

"Speaking during a talk show on Pakistan Television on Tuesday, Syed Dilawar Abbas, who is the Chairman of the Senate Standing Committee on Petroleum and Natural Resources, supported the Iranian gas project," saying that while Iran and Qatar and Turkmenistan are options for importing gas from and laying a pipeline, Iran's option seems the least costly. The Iran - India gas line would run thru Pakistan, while Qatar's would run under the sea, and Turkmenistan would run thru Afghanistan, Iranian official news agency IRNA reported.

The report quoted the senator saying that "Iran had huge gas reserves and could supply gas to both Pakistan and India to meet their growing needs for many decades."

IRNA reported "Pakistan and Iran have in principle agreed to go for a bilateral project, if India continued airing reservations over the project. Senior officials from Pakistan, Iran and India are to meet in weeks to discuss the project in Islamabad."
