Egypt signs cooperation agreement with Intel Corp

Egypt's Prime Minister Ahmed Nazif on Monday attended in the Smart Village the signing ceremony of a cooperation agreement between Egypt and Intel Corporation.

Tarek Kamel, Minister of Communications and Information Technology and Craig Barrett, the Chief executive officer of Intel signed the agreement.

Nazif said, during a press conference, that the agreement demonstrated the strategic cooperation between Intel and Egypt in the domain of information technology.

Barrett, for his part, hailed the development of the Egyptian information and communications technology sector.

He pointed out that the agreement could help Egypt join the world information society and expand the usage of information technology tools.

Barrett said that the agreement would support Intel's business at the international and regional levels and encourage other international IT companies to invest in the Egyptian market.

Barrett toured the Smart Village including the Call Centre, lauding the Egyptian scientific development in this field.

Moreover,Chairman of Intel Craig Barrett said that Egypt is prepared to attract global computer and IT firms' investments due to its success in improving the investment climate.

He made these remarks in a meeting held yesterday with members of the American Chamber of Commerce in Egypt under Taher Helmy.

He added that the success of the Egyptian economic reform programme had positively affected the country's image in the international investment and financial circles.
