Sahara: Pakistan aspires for an acceptable solution
Morocco-Pakistan, Politics, 3/29/2005

Pakistan aspires for an "acceptable solution" between Morocco and Algeria with regard to the Sahara question, affirmed Pakistan's ambassador in Rabat, Attiya Mahmoud.

In an interview published Monday by "La Gazette du Maroc" weekly, the Pakistani diplomat said her country hopes an acceptable solution will be reached by the two countries "because no decision can be imposed."

In the interview, which also touched on bilateral cooperation, Attiya Mahmoud pleaded for the reinforcement of economic ties between the two countries, saying many Pakistani companies have settled in Morocco.

The Pakistani diplomat recalled the agreement signed between Morocco's Cherifian Office of Phosphates (OCP) and Pakistan's "P. Fertiliser" which, she said, constitutes an important step towards the consolidation of cooperation since it involves an investment of USD 200 million in Morocco.

She added that the two sides are working to exonerate Moroccan investments in Pakistan from taxes and vice versa.
