Qatar, Politics, 3/29/2005
The Qatari foreign minister Sheikh Hamad bin Jasem al-Thani said that this country will witness legislative elections in the period extending between June this year and June next year giving no fixed date for the voting.
He explained that there are specialized committees studying this issue and that there are experts visiting Arab and foreign states to be acquainted with other elections experiences and making use of it and that the election system is under study.
In this regard, the Qatari minister said that the series of political reforms in Qatar started before September 11, 2001 by organizing municipal elections in 1999 and that this was enhanced by the approval of a constitution to the country through the referendum in 2003.
Sheikh Hamad Bin Jasem stressed that in order to complete political, economic, educational, social and health reforms, the feeling of the Qatari citizens should be enhanced towards attachment to his homeland by getting him involved in various walks of public life.
