Private sector dominates two thirds of Egyptian cotton exports

The national Egyptian cotton exporting companies of the private sector won 60% of exports contracts to world markets, while the private Modern Nile company alone got 32% of the exports, having exported some 41,000 tons.
The government's representative in the cotton exporters union, Muhammad al-Shewi, said that the private sector companies working in this field tolls 19 companies, in comparison with five companies of the general public sector exporting cottons.
He said that cotton exports since the beginning of the season in October 2004 until Sunday reached 125,000 tons at a cost of 231 million dollars, adding that the exports season of this crop expires by the end of September.
Some 70% of the cotton shipped to the ports of 31 countries contracted for the importation of this vital Egyptian crop.
India won the first position in importing the Egyptian cotton in the first half of the current season at a rate of 28.3% and Pakistan the second position of 17.2% and Switzerland the third position at 15.5%.
