Number of foreign fighters among gunmen in Iraq increases
Iraq-Regional, Politics, 3/29/2005
The leader of the American central leadership Gen. John AbiZaid said that the number of foreign fighters in the lines of gunmen in Iraq increased recently.
In a statement to the CNN on Sunday, AbiZaid stressed that most of the gunmen are Iraqis but it seemed that the "rate of foreign fighters among them increased during the last three months." He considered that foreign fighters sneak from neighboring states including Saudi Arabia, and Iran especially from Syria, expressing regret "that the Syrians do not do everything we had asked them to."
About the organization of "al-Qaida organization in Mesopotamia" which is led by Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, AbiZaid said that chasing Zarqawi is a difficult matter, "but with the passing of time we will get better information about his organization and detain its members" considering that al-Zarqawi's days are numbered.
