Syrian-Tunisian joint higher committee concludes deliberations

Syria and Tunisia on Sunday signed a number of agreements, protocols and understanding memorandums.
Industry Minister, Ghassan Tayarah and Tunisian Minister of Industry and Energy, Afif Shlabi signed an industrial cooperation agreement.
The executive program for cooperation in domains of oil, gas and mineral resources was signed by Minister of Oil and Mineral Resources Ibrahim Haddad and Shlabi.
A cooperation agreement to uplift woman, family and childhood was also inked by Minister of Labor and Social Affairs, Dyala Hajj Aref and the Tunisian charged with Arab, African and Moroccan affairs Salah Eddin all-Jamali.
Transport Minister Makram Obeid and Tunisian Minister of Trade and Handicrafts Mondher Zenaidi also signed the protocol of technical cooperation in area of roads.
Another agreement in field of quality of the international post services was signed between the General Establishment of Posts in Syria and the National Post Divan in Tunisia.
Concluding Meetings of the 6th session of the Syrian-Tunisian Joint Higher Committee, Syria and Tunisia stressed adherence to the Arab peace initiative approved in Beirut summit 2002 as a base for the realization of just and the comprehensive peace in the region based on the relevant international resolutions, "Madrid terms of reference" and "land-for-peace" formula in a way that ensures the Israeli full pull out from the occupied Arab territories in the Syrian Golan to June 4, 1967 lines and completing the liberation of Lebanese Shebaa farms.
The two sides renewed backing to the Palestinian people's steadfastness, hailing efforts exerted by the Palestinian leadership for unifying the Palestinian rank and resuming the peace march in order to restore back their rights and establish his own independent state with Jerusalem as a capital.
Both sides stressed commitment to Iraq's territorial integrity, calling for completion of the political process after the elections, that were held earlier, and for participation of all the Iraqi sects in the political process through its different stages.
The two sides called for freeing the Middle East from Weapons of Mass Destruction "that threatens stability and security of the region and the world as a whole," emphasizing the need of the international community's efforts to force Israel to join the Non-Proliferation Treaty NPT and put all its nuclear establishments under the supervision of the International Agency for Atomic Energy.
Syrian and Tunisian sides condemned all types and phenomenon of terrorism, asserting the necessity for convening an international conference under the United Nations supervision to define terrorism, distinguish it from the peoples' right to resist the occupation.
They underscored the importance of reforming the United Nations as the UN General Assembly to restore its role to enhance and preserve the world's peace and security.
They underscored the importance of activating of the Arab-European dialogue, economic relations, bilateral agreements and increasing the volume of trade exchange as well putting the Arab free trade zone agreement into implementation.
The final meeting was co-chaired by Syrian prime minister Mohammad Naji Otari and his Tunisian counterpart Mohammed Ghannoushi in the presence of the two states' delegations.
"Syrian-Tunisian political relations are distinguished and based on mutual trust," Ghannoushi said in a statement to reporters after the meeting.
He expressed the hope that the economic relations will up to the level of political ones.
For his part Otari said "Syria is keen to cement and develop the ties with Tunisia in economic, social and cultural areas as to upgrade to the level of the distinguished standing political relations."
