Lahoud's assurance to ensure security
Lebanon, Politics, 3/28/2005

The Lebanese President Emil Lahoud made use of attending a mass service on Easter in Bkerky church, the headquarters of the Maronite Church in the mount of Lebanon, to stress that the Lebanese authorities are determined to enhance security.

He vowed not to leave the security conditions loose and called on all Lebanese to maintain unity and to help the authorities in achieving this objective.

The patriarch of the Maronite church Nasrullah Sfeir considered that the Lebanese are in drastic need to get assurance on their fate and that of their children, and that Lebanon is at a "crossroad" wether Lebanon would gain independence, sovereignty and freedom or unrest.

Meantime, Washington condemned al-Boushreyah explosion. The assistant for the spokesman of the US Department Of State, Adam Early, said that the Lebanese authorities have to ensure security for its citizens, calling on organizing the next elections in Lebanon, apart from the Syrian influence.

The Lebanese opposition held the responsibility of the explosion to the Lebanese and Syrian security, at a time when the Lebanese presidency accepted to open an unconditional international investigation to the assassination of the former Lebanese prime minister Rafic Hariri.

Though the Lebanese authorities responded to a request it had previously rejected, the opposition paid no attention to it, considering that the work of the UN committee will not be transparent if the leaders of the security forces in Lebanon will keep their posts and renewed calls for their resignation.
