Al-Mahdi warns of people's demonstration to topple the government of Sudan
Sudan, Politics, 3/26/2005
Leader of the opposition Sudanese Ummah party said that solving problems of the country and achieving just peace is linked to the foundation of a forum that includes all people of Sudan with all their ethnic affiliations and political organizations.
Al-Sadeq al-Mahdi, who was a prime minister when the coupe of June 30, 1989 took place under the leadership of the current President Omar al-Bashir, warned against a people's uprising that will introduce change in Sudan if just peace and democracy is not achieved in the country.
The leader of the Ummah party who was talking before a gathering of his supporters in Friday's sermon on one of Um Durman's mosque considered that the peace agreement between the government and the southern rebels on January 9th is of foreign composition and inappropriate for the Sudanese reality.
He considered that the agreement is built on four wrong assumptions and divided the problems in Sudan to that they are between the south and the north and considered that the government represents the north and the Sudan Peoples Liberation Movement represents the south, that all the armed forces are either affiliate to the government or to the People's Army and the absent political forces which did not attend the negotiations will accept this "de facto."
