Syria's permanent envoy to the UN statement on Hariri fact finding report

Syria's Permanent envoy to the UN Faisal Miqdad said that the U.N. fact-finding mission report on the former Lebanese Prime Minister Hariri assassination has dealt with issues of political nature and depended on the sayings of one Lebanese party while ignoring the other.

"The UN doesn't hold Syria any responsibility for anything," Miqdad said in a statement yesterday at the UN headquarters.

"The UN report should be more objective to analyze the general situation, and investigations should include all sides, particularly those who have interest to create such a tense atmosphere following the Hariri assassination.

"The UN security Council resolution 1559 is the responsible for division of the Lebanese people and tensions prior Hariri assassination," he added in responce to the UN report that blamed Syria for the tense atmosphere prior to Hariri's assassination. Miqdad called upon the UN to behave with the responsibility to solve issues in a way that causes no division.

He asserted that Syria always calls for revealing those who assassinated Hariri and punishing them saying that "Hariri was a great ally of Syria and its partner in attaining stability and progress in Lebanon." "Syria respects all the international resolutions including the UN resolution 1559 demanding the international community to work for the implementation of all other international resolutions," Miqdad concluded.
