Culture can step up historical Arab-Latin American ties, Minister
Regional-Latin America, Politics, 3/25/2005

Culture could be used as a means to bring people closer, so much so that it could efficiently contribute to restructuring international relations, in general, and historical Arab-Latin American ties, said Moroccan Education Minister, Habib El Malki.

Speaking, here Wednesday, at the closing session of the seminar on "Cultural Aspects of Latin America," El Malki explained the ongoing changes worldwide create a need of complementarity between Arab and Latin American nations to enhance relations.

He said it is time for Arab countries to grant particular interest and draw benefit from the Latin American experience in economic cooperation gained through the setting up of their regional market Mercosur. Participants in the seminar, held part of the preparations for the foreign ministers meeting of the two regions to take place March 25-26 in Marrakech, stressed the need for Arab and Latin American countries to open to each other and facilitate rapprochement between their peoples.

The seminar discussed topics relating to the making up of Latin American national States, the first attempts to incept regional cooperation, immigration in Latin America and culture, science and technology.

The Foreign ministers meeting is to review the final text of the declaration of the Arab and South American countries summit that will take place May 8-11 in Brasilia.
